The first in an album of 8 ink drawings signed by late Ming-early Qing dynasty Chinese master painter Gong Xian (1618-1689AD). Landscape painting and calligraphy were the ultimate expressions of art in traditional China. The subject matter of the album showing the four seasons and their transitions was a popular topic reflecting the change and impermanence that exist in human life as much as in nature. This painting was selected from the Designated Collections of Durham University's Oriental Museum.
