Hannah's Intern Diary

As a recent graduate I know that entering the world of work can be a scary prospect. Through my intern diary I hope to show that the transition from library to office isn't so terrifying after all... in fact, for me, it has been a great experience!

I quickly learnt that no two days are ever the same here in the Retail Office. I love the varied nature of my role; my daily tasks range from processing customer orders to carrying out financial tasks. I also look after the social media pages for the Retail Office where we run regular competitions and offer online discounts... so if you haven't already checked out our Facebook and Twitter pages please do take a look!

It seems that spring may FINALLY have sprung, just in time for Easter. I love spring. The lighter mornings and milder temperatures make the bus journey to work each morning less of an ordeal and I can finally leave the duffle coat at home. The better weather has certainly had a positive impact on the office too as people head out-doors on their lunch break to take in a bit of fresh air and sunshine.

Of course another great thing about spring is Easter... we are all looking forward to the long weekend and spending time with friends and family and, obviously, eating plenty of chocolate. Speaking of chocolate, it was a very nice surprise to come into the office this morning to find an Easter egg on our desks thanks to a (not so) mystery Easter bunny... something tells me mine won't last long!

This week, with Pia away on holiday, I have been taking on some of her supervisory tasks such as ordering stock for the convenience stores. I value any opportunity to expand my knowledge and skills so this, for me, has been great! Other than this my work this week has involved lots of 'financially' things. I have to admit that I have been surprised by how much I have enjoyed this part of my work, before starting here I would never have imagined it! I have especially enjoyed going on training courses to learn more about things such as VAT and a variety of financial processes. In my opinion this is one of the best parts of an internship, there are so many opportunities to learn and find out what you enjoy (and what you don't!).

Anyway, I will leave you with this photograph I took of pretty pink blossom on the trees on my way to work the other day. I hope you all have a lovely, relaxing Easter weekend.
